Hi, guys! I'm Amy and I'm your mod. *wavies* On the General board you can talk about anything that doesn't relate to Marianne and Parrish - just to get that clear. But I was thinking this thread would be a good place to introduce yourselves... and tell us your favourite Tert character. Mine is (of course) Parrish, but my favourite minor character is Ibis. I find him hilarious! ;D Okay... if you guys need me just give me a comm... I mean, PM.

*not one to be left out, Narelle decides to make an appearance* Hi, my name's Narelle and I'm a parrishoholic. You can call me Mouse though... hell, everyone else I know does. I'm the mandatory aussie and no, I do not have kangaroos living in my backyard. Though I did see a large king brown out there once... scarily enough... Ahem, anyway. I'm rather fond of Roo, but as talking bout him makes me choke up I'll say Teece as well. He's just such a long-suffering sweetie.

Whee! You're here too! XD
I've never seen a kangaroo in my life!
*sniffles at Roo's death*

Hi everyone,
Amy, would it be too hard to create a heading for me to post news to you guys here on Torley's board (or if I have anything I'd like you all to see?) If not, would you mind?
best Marianne

'Bout time I said something here. I'm into books, films, computer games - er, guess I'm an escapism junkie. I have a stupid fast motorbike with an exhaust clearly stamped "not for road use". "Oh, I didn't notice that there officer..." Been doing martial arts on and off since I was 13-14 ... actually, make that 5! I've always loved kickboxing above all else but just started up doing Judo, which was the first art I ever did, 23 years ago. Have been through typical Karate, a Korean variant, Kung Fu, and a mixed style called MaeWashiJitsu which was amazing - it was taught by a bouncer and most of the grappling I learned there is illegal on the judo mat! Cool. ;D I've been snowboarding twice and really started to get the hang of that and look good, and I wanna keep that up. At work I write software. Now, what's a king brown? A Koala?

It's just down in the Misc section of the board... Ooh, and GR, yay, a bike! That would make you the Teece of this board...

Hmmm ... Teece is really tall, really huge, and has long hair. I can think of 3 things we don't have in common. So Cj wanna do Kung Fu? Matrix fan? I reckon don't pick a style, or an organisation, pick the _Club_ that looks like it has the bits you want (might be fighting, might be lots of stretching, might be pretty uniforms). I've done different stuff 'cos I always want a club that does actual fighting - that's all that matters to me. Got anything promising nearby?

*is jealous* I did karate for about two months before fate stepped in and pretty much decreed I never do anything that physical ever again... my leg joints totally went on the skitz. I'd love to go back someday, I loved it, but it doesn't look like I will. Unfortunately. So now I harrass people like *you* whenever I want some pertinent information regarding fighting. Ever learnt a weapon? A king brown is a very nasty snake. Much more dangerous than a koala. Although those koalas can be pretty shifty...

To assorted injured ninja chicks: Don't give up just yet. Karate can be really punishing on the legs, and in a bad way too. the angular style can lean on the joints pushing the knees to try and bend sideways and the violent finish demanded by Shotokan combined with all techniques reaching full extension can pull muscles and tendons and strain elbows and knee joints. Most people are fine with karate but some aren't and that's just people. There are styles that won't risk this kinda harm, and they're NOT inferior - they just know how bodies work. If the training makes your muscles burn then that's cool, but joint pain at 17 yrs old? Ripped tendons at 19? Those bodies gotta do you for a while yet!

Oh i'm like the biggest matrix fan in the universe! ;D i consider them a trilogy, not just this whole seperete thing and liking one more and dissin other, no no, all for one one for all! ;D on the whats on offer front, i live in the middle of nowhere! well i may as well as! but i hope to find a Kung Fu class some day! obviosuly not here but somewhere! thing is i love the fighting the stretching (can nearly do the splits but i think i started too late to ever really reach them ) and the whole soul behind martial arts plus Kung Fu does have perdy costumes

In my case it was an almagamation of things rather than simply the karate... I just happened to start at the worst possible point in my life. Which is typically me. What styles would you say are kinder on the joints etc?
