As Marianne is unlikely to be able to write more books as fast as we can read them, what other things are you reading?
As far as Cyberpunk goes I loved Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith.
Richard Morgan's stuff rocks and I can't get enough of Matthew Reilly's books.
Oh yeah, I worship the ground Iain (+/-M) Banks walks on.
How about you guys?

the last cyberpunk i read was Friday by Robert A Heinlein and considering its era its very beyond its time but it waned a bit for me somethings falling a little too well into place if you know what i mean, but definitely a recommendation!
I've nicked two Iain M Banks from my bro and intend to read em once i finish "The Art of Murder" by Jose Carlos Somoza its such a cool idea, people are now the art standing in museums like statues for hours of the day, but someone gets murdered ooooh!
Its a pity cos when it comes to cyberpunk Parrish is all i've really found in dublin, the rest is all epic fantasy and saga sci-fi
gimme a bad-ass protagonist please!

Ummm... embarrassing to say this, but Marianne is pretty much all I've read of the cyberpunk genre (I wouldn't know where to start with anything else) and I haven't even read much straight-up sci-fi. I'm more a fantasy girl. At the moment I'm between books - the last one I read was 'Crash Deluxe'.

Definitely "Only Forward" by Michael Marshall Smith. He's written a few but this one is imho his best. Very similar feel to Parrish. Also "Altered Carbon" by Richard Morgan. Heavily futuristic, kick ass murder mystery. It was his first book and made him a millionaire. If you want something a little darker try Market Forces by the same guy. Set in the not too distant future where duels to the death are the way business tenders are decided. It's odd, but worryingly compelling. Need any more?

As far as Cyberpunk goes I loved Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith. Oh yeah, I worship the ground Iain (+/-M) Banks walks on. J Yeah, MMS is good, I think I've read everything he's done (except shorts). I liked Spares best.. Or did I? It's been a while and they're all action packed and cool. I've also read everything Iain M Banks has done (bar shorts) but not everything Iain Banks has done - if ya get me weejit. I'd have to say Look to Windward is the best he's ever done - Excession is a close second. I've always loved CJ Cherryh's sci fi, read Hellburner, Heavy time, tripoint (f'ing excellent book) and some brick sized trilogy in one volume about weird nomad arab ninja humanoid aliens who throw knives at each other... Totally can't rmember the name. Pure hardcore cyberpunk I've read "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" (of course ) and also Virtual Light by William Gibson. Once upon a time I read neuromancer but it's been a while. Outside Sci fi recently I've been reading Simon Scarrow's historical stuff about legionaries in Britain - really cool and bloody and sweary, loved Bernard Cornwells' grubby, earthy Arthurian trilogy. Got a book called Devices and Desires by a KJ Parker; can't wait to se where that story goes, I devour anything by Pratchett, and... I should probably shut the hell up.

No don't shut up. That's cool stuff. I've read most of Iain Banks's but only a few of Iain M Banks's... Loved them all, really loved The Crow Road and Espedair Street.
Cornwell's Arthur books are some of my favourite ever, I love what he does with Lancelot...
Ok, other fav books... Heinlein's Time enough for love is a book I keep reading again and again and again. Can't get enough of it. Also like Joe Haldeman's Tool of the Trade. Anything by Wyndham.
Ok, someone else's turn!

For someone whose favourite genre is cyberpunk, I really have not read much of it at all. Well, I've read a lot of short stories and anthologies in the genre, but as far as novels go William Gibson and Marianne are the standout authors I've read. I'm going to have to go to the library and get some of these books you guys are talking about.

other Cyberpunk?
Walter Jon Williamson, George Alec Effinger. Melissa Scott (lots of stuff there).
Tad Williams Otherland series, although a very different sort of style/sub-genre I suppose there.

How about Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Funny, violent, and slick. I liked Gibson's Neuromancer and Burning Chrome collection. Effinger was good but the whole belt phone thing seems a little dated now. Let's see.... There's a Shadowrunbook called 2XS by Nigel Findley. It's actually pretty good unlike most of the Shadowrun novels.
I'm also reading Cornwell but it's his Richard Sharpe series, until they deliver my newly ordered CN book from the UK. In case anyone doesn't know, it's not scheduled for release in the States until June '06. BA$%NHS#!!
Been eyeing up the Scarrows books GrimmRiffer mentioned as well. Not cyberpunk but sounds cool.
Someone please add more cyberpunk.....

Hmm, I'll have to look out for some of those books...This is about the first cyberpunk I've read (great intro to the genre!) So I don't really have much to contribute, but thanks for the suggestions everyone - any more? *looks around questioningly*

Thanks Marianne! Jac suggested Richard Morgan as well. I hopped over to Amazon to take a look.
Slightly off-topic, While it's not cyberpunk, If anyone would like to see/read about a Parrish-esque( spirited, beauty of a heroine with anger issues and impulse control deficiencies) vampire hunter/undead slayer for hire, Try Barb and J.C Hendee's Noble Dead series(Dhampir, Thief of Lives, and Sister of the Dead. Ignore the worthless cover art, the stories are better by far than the covers appear) Not my usual reading but surprisingly interesting. Unike Anita Blake, it's not soft-porn but has all the violence, sexual tension, and aggravating mysteries I like in a tale. It has some corny parts but Magierre( the female lead) and Parrish would either get a long like family or kill each other out right. Actually, that's probably the same thing..

Definitely "Only Forward" by Michael Marshall Smith. He's written a few but this one is imho his best. My mum is buying me this book today. It should tide me over 'til Nylon angel arrives in a few days. Edit: Damnit! Out of stock. Off to the library to see what they have.
