National Novel Writing Month starts in November. For those who don't know what it is here is a basic run down.
NaNo WriMo is an event that started in America but is now a worldwide contest of sorts. The aim is to produce a completed first draft novel of at least 50,000 words. You have the whole of November to write it (without starting before or finishing late). The prize for finishing the draft is just that, you have a first draft ready to go back over and maybe submit somewhere.
One of my editors has recruited me into playing and I'm quite looking forward to it. Last year over 70,000 people took part, though no telling how many succeeded.
In order to reach the 50,000 words required to win you need to write at least 1,666 words a day, it may look a lot but on a roll most people can write about 1000 an hour or better.
Anyway give it a go, the worst you can do is end up with a bunch of stuff you can work on later.

Ooooh... I say every year that I'm gonna try this, and then I don't. XD This year I don't think I'll succeed, cause I'll be over in Germany visiting Cass for at least a week and I don't tend to get any writing done while she's around, but I might aim for 25,000 or something. There are NaNo communities on LJ where you can record your progress, IM.
