I've just finished re-reading this, so why not? Trudi Canavan is a true goddess of fantasy. She's written two trilogies so far - The Black Magician Trilogy (plus a one-book prequel to this set thousands of years earlier) and The Age of the Five Trilogy. They're so intelligent and so gripping, and they don't fall into tired old clichés like so many books do - for example, in The Black Magician Trilogy, the main character is trained along with other novices how to use magic without going all Harry Potter (thank god!). Anyway. I suck at summarising other people's work, so I shall link you, instead: Go here!

Will see what I can do, Chir. While I am at it... does anyone have any favourite genre writers they'd like to chat too? Throw their names in the ring.
