Hi Patch-ers (and thanks Amy) For various reasons I won't be reading any of the Parrish fanfic posted here. One reason is the upcoming competition - it wouldn't be fair to be putting suggestions to some people and not others. Second, I probably need to safeguard against any suggestions of plagiarism. This is not a reflection on any of you but on the broader world. I will continue to be active on all other parts of the board though. I hope you understand these issues. You have each other as critiquers and I am very happy to answer general questions on the craft of writing. For your interest, Nylon Angel will be out in the US next July with new US cover. Should be interesting to see the new interpretation of 'you know who'. I finished Crash Deluxe today and will be sending it to my editor this week. I'll keep you posted, and promise to let you know first when the CD cover is for public consumption. best Marianne PS A King Brown is a deadly brown snake.

Hey Marianne, Cool, I totally understand about the fic, and I think everyone else will as well. The Patchers I've spoken to really love the way that you actually get involved with your fans, and we can keep the fanfic totally seperate. WHOO! When will we be seeing CD on the shelves? *waves pompoms and offers unconditional support*

Hi Cj,
it varies. Mostly publishers have a concept and work with professional illustrators (like you could be if you wanted to go that road!) to create the cover. As an author you will be asked for your input at the beginning and then after its complete. I guess you could say it's a collaborative process.
In some instances the author will have a very firm idea and will provide the publisher with a look. I think Ian Irvine had a friend design the covers for his first series (not sure on that, his website might tell you).
Larry Rostant who designed the Parrish covers is a well known illustrator who has done covers for many writers including Tom Clancy.
Keep in mind that publishers understand the business side much better than the writers and will know what will appeal in the market place.
My input was that I didn't want Parrish in high heels. Bit hard to run in them!

Hi Patch-ers
how did you get on with thew download of the Parrish ss Amy? Did you get it?
And can you explain to me what the profiles are and how they get allotted when someone joins? I think they're a great idea. I see Mouse is a Vagrant Tek Hybrid.
I've often thought the books would convert well to a game - what do you all think?

Yes! I got it! It was a great story, just exactly tying into Parrish's attitudes in the book and a nice little one-shot. Well worth the read. I only had one little problem with it - I don't know if they typed it up for you or just copied and pasted from your original document, but there are a few typos and apostrophes where they shouldn't be. The story though, I can't fault one little bit. I especially loved it when Merry was calling "Paaaarish!" ;D Right, the profiles: 0-49 posts: Feral 50-99 posts: Mueno 100-249 posts: Tert Player 250-499 posts: Cabal Member 500+ posts: Eskaalim Marianne, you're a Global Moderator (basically, you have most of the powers I do, and feel free to make use of them!) so your rank is just a Global Mod at the min, but if you want it customising you can either do it yourself by going to your profile and adding it in at Position (create new) or ask me to do it if you don't have time - just let me know what you want it changing to. I've customised Mouse to Vagrant Tek Hybrid and CJ to Celtic-Shaman because they were our original members from the beginning. Everyone else has to either rise through the ranks or really suck up to me. If you have any other profile questions let me know. And as for the game idea... YES! That would be the Best Thing Ever (tm)! Is there a possibility of that happening?!

Re: the sstory, I think the editor was moving country at the time, so it may have just got cut and pasted, not copy edited. I'll have to watch out for that in future.
Re: levels. very cool idea, Amy. I like it. Well organised too.
Re: computer game. It's certainly in the plan, but then so is selling movie rights! I guess we just have to wait and see.

*gasp!* YES! The only thing better than a computer game would be a movie... *dies of happiness* Hmmm... want us to hold some computer game executives hostage for you? Ooh, but if you can, make them make it a third person puzzle/action game. *plots* I can't really take the credit for the posting ranks - they were already there, I just changed the names. But yeah. If there's anything else you think the site needs, just tell me - and that goes for everyone...

Damn, I'm worried ... especially about the game. So much fiction ends up as a total piece of dross in the conversion and then the rights have gone. Games that have created a cool, violent, believable sci fi world with rounded exciting characters and dialog? Deus Ex... That's it. I'd hate to see a Parrish game where ya just run about pushing buttons and shooting the same bad guy 1000 times to reach the end. So, I guess you all think you know who should play Parrish in a movie, right? Let's hear it!! (Though a hi-quality serial like 24 might suit the work better?)

GR, let's take the movie casting to the thread I'm about to start in The Stretch... I think we've had a brief conversation about this on the LJ community but here is good too. And yeah, it's a fact that most books are better than the movie, and the games usually astronomically suck. But maybe with Marianne writing the game script (or if she doesn't want to, I'll do it!!) and a decent developer on board, it could have massive potential!
