I have an idea for a story in me. I've had this idea for years, but everytime I sit and try and nut it out and start putting it into a useful form, it always fails and I get frustrated after a week. What commitment strategies can you use to push through this until you get closer to something you're happy with?

Hmm, sounds like the story of my life! XD A good way is to just keep writing, no matter how sucky you think it is. When you get stuck, brainstorm and plan (which is where I always fall down!), but don't delete what you have. Then go through and take the good elements from it and rewrite. Easier said than done, I know, and it takes ages to get something you're actually pleased with, but it works.

Sounds good. The last time I tried, I thought I'd do setting stuff and then make up characters and then try and fit it together. Kind of an abstract way rather than planning out a story and then evolving it from there, but I've tried the more traditional way before and the results well, lets just not go there.
