We are greater then the sum of our parts and yes it is thought, deed and action which dictates humanity. I think the key we seem to be missing though in regards to internet and consoles and TV and Drugs yada yada yada, is that in the end it all comes down to choice and two arguments. The only difference between in control and dependance is one of level of use. If something becomes a dependency being in any form then yes thats when changes occur. Internet, drugs, computer games (my particular vice since cigerettes where kicked) anything really thats goes beyond the normal practice of use then becomes abuse. But it still comes down to choice and thats where we as human beings fool ourselves. Stay with me there is a point to all this and in the end its all binary. Yes or no, on or off , dead or alive. I love chaos theory, the simple premise that the recreation of a specific events won't nececcarily produce the SAME forseeable results. Then theres the definition of insanity. Basically saying that insanity is reproducing the same events over and over again EXPECTING DIFFERENT results. So either way we look at it we're screwed and each individual is left to MAKE UP THEIR OWN MINDS as to what is appropriate levels of use. There now have I buried my point deep enough in there to lose everyone? Oh good then my work here is done.

Computer games are my vice as well, MM. Good to have a fellow geek on board!
I do get what you mean there. I know people who only come offline to go to work or eat, so I think I still have hope there... ;D

Arrr, HOPE, both our greatest strength and our primary weakness.
I know, I know, I stole the line, but you must admit it is a good one? ;D

*lol!* Tell me about it... one of the truest lines ever spoken - even though you did nick it.

Jeez tough crowd!
Here I am attempting to be the veritable font of discourse and I still get shot down when I give credit for quotes.
Perhaps I should take a page from Daac's book and start playing the part of the bastard.
How about it gang? Do you think that'd would work for me?
You think you've seen dissention so far? HUH!
Wait till they get a load of me.
Dramatic enough? Do you think I had the right inflection to be the bad guy, maybe I should practice the whole ego mania "thing" again?
Thoughts?

Speaking of pets, have any of the gang heard of the german scientist who implanted a security radio tranciever beneath his skin so the "smart" building always knows where he is and he doesn't need security ID any more.
The cyberpunk future is now people!
We've got ourselves a leader of the free world who's from the religious right, we have mega corporations, we have the emerging tech of cybernetic implants, we have the World Bank, we have monopalistic World Trade Organisation and increasing commercialism driven media.
Have I left anything out?
(I should write for The Lone Gunmen).
Cyber punk is alive and well.

Nope, I hadn't heard that one - wow!
Hmm... when you said 'German' I immediately thought of that disturbing guy who plasticises flesh and then does live autopsies on late-night TV - kind of a Del Morte figure, I'd say!

Are you talking about the museum of the dead? Where the flesh is flayed, stripped and then preserved in oxygen depledted resin to "preserve" the flesh so it looks like some 3D cut out display of the human body.
All of this wouldn't be so bad of course, until one takes into account that the displays are actual people who "donated" their bodies to the art.
Yes they knew what was to happen to them. Sheesh, I've heard of preserved for posterity, but this is ridiculus.
Speaking of cyberpunk too as we were, recently a bionic arm has been created. It has five fingers, is nervous system controlled using the same inpulses that controlled the 12 year olds previous arm. There is an electronic plug that was implanted to link with the NS and then is passed outside the body to plug into the arm. This is only first generation, but they are already working on a permanant bone grafted version so the arm can take as much weight as a normal arm as well.
It's sensitive enough to pick up an egg or crush a tin (not aluminium) can, so the arm/hand is actually stronger than his original. The young man also said he can "feel" the object in his hand. Not as sensitive as his left arm but enough to allow control over the pressure exerted.
Truth is stranger than fact.

I think so, yeah... :s
Wow! I want a bionic arm! Well... maybe not, if it means losing my own arm... *cradles arm protectively* But how cool is that?!
Oh, I read something in the paper not long ago that said the FBI and CIA and stuff are studying brain waves to see if they can figure out when someone's lying, when someone recognises something (so they can see if it works with suspects and murder weapons and stuff) and all sorts of things for a better justice system. It was really interesting.
And hey, maybe in the future they can use the same principle in place of exams, to see how smart we are!
