There are capyburras (sp?), which are kinda like big guineapig/rodent things. I think they'd be the closest things we have to canrats, though they are not mangy and rabid and all those other things we (well I) imagine canrats to be.

Dont worry too much, capyburras are south american, they don't generally roam around on the streets down under either. Not like the giant grey kangaroos that shred flesh from bone, or the infamous drop bears who jump out at you from great heights and the ghost gums.
Not to mention the worst of all,
shh, you mustn't tell any one else.
But we also have *looks around fertively and whispers* Vampire prawns.
SHEESH!!! not so load they'll hear you.
