Hey Marianne,
How many Parrish books do you plan for there to be? *hopes it's a LOT!*

You're kidding! That sucks... it's your creation, you should be able to say how long it goes on for... *wanders off muttering about publishers*

I'm probably gonna get slapped with a dead trout for saying this, but, in my opinion, sometimes it's better for an author to move onto something new rather than keep trying to breathe life into a series that has run its course and has nowhere left to go. Even if the series is fantastic, as Parrish is, I'd still rather see it end well than see it drag on beyond the point it really should have ended. Things just get silly when that happens. You see it all the time... you start off loving a series, but after a certain point things just head downhill.
So, I say take Parrish where she's meant to go, tell her story, and end it when it ends. Then give us something new and different and better than watching a world that feels almost like home slowly deteriorate.
Sorry bout the rant, but series that go far longer than they should are a pet hate of mine.
Of course, I would be very happy if Parrish's story takes a nice long time to tell, and Orbit lets you do it. ;D

Orbit better keep it going, if they know what good for em'! on a lighter note, have you planned in your head Parrish's story, or are you the kind of writer who goes with the flow?

Hi Mouse,
I do agree with you on this. Some series go on far too long. At this stage I am contracted for three (now complete - or close to). We'll see what happens then. Certainly the end of bk 3 leaves room for at least one more, maybe two.
In the meantime I'm working on a new two book series, set in a a city of nightclubs where patrons only live to the age of twenty three and daylight never dawns. It's a v cool premise and setting.

Hi Cj,
re: the plotting aspect. I would say a bit of both. I always have an overall idea of where I'm going and an emotional arc for Parrish. But characters do tend to pop up as I write - like Roo for instance. And I believe your subconscious steers you mostly in the right direction.

Done - it's a little bit tacky since I didn't have time to get all the resizing done but I'll come back to it later. *goes to put up Thylacon info and wishes she could be there*

*dies at mention of Thylacon* Two of my three all-time favourite authors in the same place at the same time, and the chances of me being able to get there are about buckleys to none. It just had to be in Tasmania, didn't it?

Wah! MDP and Anne Bishop?? WHY AM I A STUDENT? WHY? Why must I pay so much to learn to give back to the people, when they only make me pay personal indemnity anyway? Surely my psychology skills will be needed at such an event and they will give me free tickets, and I will have all of Tasmania loving books, and reading and then they'll put the prices down on books, even though the writers royalties will go up and my life will be complete... ahhhh.. and I thought graduating this year was gonna be my highlight... No, I have a new goal... ;D
