I've always loved the idea of working metal and I got the opportunity to work with a armour smith for a weekend. I went home, made a forge out of an old bbq and a hairdryer and haven't looked back since. When the orders started to build up I took a career break and found a proper workshop. As to Nursing I started off in A&E, then ended up in Orthopaedics and then Professional Development. I work with a couple of private surgeons just off Harley Street now. I feckin hate commuting! So where are you training? Is it the advanced diploma? How are you finding it? I hated being a student but quite enjoyed it once I'd qualified. Being a Charge Nurse was fun too... I guess I just like bossing people about.

Old bbq and a hairdryer? That sounds kinda random. XD Well I'm in Oz, and to be a registered nurse here you have to do a three year bachelor degree. Bachelor of Nursing Science, to be exact. I go to James Cook University and I'm really really enjoying it. I find all my classes really interesting (except for the chemistry component of Biological Systems and Processes), despite having a nazi for a lab co-ordinator. I'm actually surprised by how well I've taken to it, considering it was a last minute (week before our applications for universities were due) change from the thing I'd been planning to do for years... journalism. I'm so glad I did though, I'm having a ball. What do you do in Professional Development?

Not as random as you'd think. You need hot coals and a source of air. Seemed pretty logical to me! I organised mandatory training such as Resus, Manual Handling etc, I taught Orthopaedic courses and gave lectures at a couple of local Universities to Pre-reg students. Oh, I drank a lot of coffee too... I must admit it sounds a bit more scientific than training over here, I spent a lot of time cleaning bed pans in the sluice when I was a student. Doesn't Journalism pay really well???

Yeah, the training here has a lot more theory in it. Although don't worry, we do our fair share of bathing and changing bedpans and other less-than-fun jobs. XD
Nursing pays pretty well here too... and you'll never have to fight for a job nursing. And there's so many different areas you can move into, I'm not about to get bored doing it.

Well, I hate to butt into this oviously off-topic discussion (I skipped pages 2, 3, &4) but since this thread is for new members, I feel it is my prerogative. Hi, I'm new, don't worry, I won't be for long I'm sure...how could I stop myself from posting? It'll take me a few days to catch up with everything...and I haven't been able to get hold of the third book yet (stupid bookshops and library!) Strange really, since I live in AUS. Anyway, glad to meet you all, especially you Chirugal - I like that baseball-bat/other weapon philosophy! I'm sure there are others of you with it, but I haven't read enough to get to know you.

New member here...
I'm from Holland, have been posting on SFFworld in the MDP-thread, I found this site, long story short, here I am.
I've read Nylon Angel a while ago, reread it last week and read Code Noir straight after. I'm waiting for Crash DeLuxe to arrive.
I run a dutch fantasy bookclub (online, we don't meet. Well, actually, we did meet in june, but not to discuss books, it was for fun. Discussing books is fun of course, but...never mind...). The Bookclub just went homeless, because the server it was on just vanished (again a long story). We're trying to move the forum to another server, should be done today.... As I told MDP in a post on SFFworld, I've been trying to get the Bookclub to read MDP. And it looks like it's working. I'm sending my copy of NA around to a few bookclubmembers, who read it and send it to the next. I'll ask them if they'll write a short opinion of the book in english, so I can let MDP know what Holland thinks of the books..:-)
The sales won't increase by sending a book around, but the sales for book 2 and 3 will of course. Besides, I've sold 2 Nylon Angels to bookclubmembers, who don't want to wait for the send-around. Oh, I work at a bookstore in Holland.
My english probably isn't perfect all the time, but I think you'll understand what I'm babbling about..:-)
I'm a SWF, age: 27 (but will be 28 in a few weeks). I own 2 dogs (husky mix Nutak and a Rottweiler, Kane, 3 cats, 5 rats and a rabbit). That's my other passion: animals. I love animals and nature, Mother Earth. No, I'm not into Wicca.

Hi Phedre, welcome to Parrish's patch (wave) Chirugal, our mod, is on summer break but Mouse is looking after the shop. I'm sure she'll pop in and say hi! That is so terrific that Parrish is joining your book club Do you think she'll behave? How lovely to own a husky and a Rotty. My kids would be so envious. We have no fence and therefore no dogs possible. Do you work in a specialty bookshop. I used to work in one in Brisbane. It's called Pulp Fiction - marvellous SFF bookshop. MDP

Excuse me, I'm sorry. I posted in a couple of other forums before coming here to introduce myself. Forgive me, that was rude.
Hope no minds if I poke around and voice an opinion which you are free to disregard with rapid abandon.
