World War Z and The Complete Zombie Survival Guide
« Thread Started on Apr 11, 2009, 5:00am »

If you are a fan of Survival Fiction or have played Left 4 Dead at least once, YOU MUST READ THESE. Both are by Max Brooks.

The Zombie Survival Guide is the funnier of the two as it takes itself a little too seriously to be plausible. World War Z reads like an actual war-story account (and I have read a few).

I guess my biggest criticism of them is that they are slightly American-centric, but that is not really a big surprise. They tend to divide everything into the US and the rest of the world. Also the after-action reports on the Complete Zombie Survival Guide are a bit like filler, once all the good stuff has gone ahead.

The best thing about the two books was that I accidently started looking for ways to make my house more zombpocalypse ready once I had finished reading them. Oops. ;D

Oh, totally. ;D

My housemate is a complete zombie apocalypse nut, and insisted that I was only allowed to be on 'his team' if I read the survival guide (haven't gotten around to reading WWZ yet!). It was great. And succeeded in convincing me that a katana is the best weapon to possess in the zombpocalypse scenario if you're not proficient with firearms. XD

Katana, nothing. Shao Lin spade all the way!

I live in Australia, so sadly I have to be a member of a gun club or a farmer to own a firearm, otherwise I would be TOTALLY ready. As I live inner-city, the first is out, and I doubt most gun clubs would let me in as I wouldn't meet most of the membership criteria. IE. Owning a Jeep/Land Rover, excess body hair and smokin' with aggression. You know the kind of smoking I mean, the one where they consume the cigarette as if the act of doing so is indicative of what they'll do to their enemies.

The only people I have ever smoke with that much anger are survival-type hardmen and drag-queens.

*giggles* See, I was torn between a katana and a Shaolin spade... I think a katana would be easier to use though.

Well, I live in the UK - no guns allowed unless you're police or armed forces! Making us officially screwed in a zombie apocalypse situation.

And amen about the drag queens. They can be so lovely, yet so bitter... :D

First things first, start hoarding food in a safe, zombie-proof place. :D

I'm wondering on the legality of crossbows in Australia. And I need to get a reliable four-wheel drive with a zombie-bashing roo-bar (that's bull-bar for non-Aussies).

Oooh, good call. *starts looking at Jeeps* On second thoughts, maybe an armoured car would be a better idea...

Well, in the UK it's still legal to shoot a Scotsman with a bow and arrow after dark in York on a Sunday. ;D So maybe there's an ancient crossbow law, too...
