Since the forum opened, we've picked the brains of a good few famous authors and other awesome people... but not Marianne herself! This thread is our portal to Marianne's brain... If you have a question for her, be it about her books, her writing practices, her hobbies or anything else you can think of, feel free to post it here. This thread is open to everyone! I'll get going with a few things... *** - Since I've never heard the words said, I was wondering about the pronunciation of these words, since how I pronounce them inside my head might be different: Plessis, Mira, moud, Eskaalim.
- Can you remember what the first story you ever wrote was about?
- When an idea for a novel hits you, what develops first - a protagonist, a situation, a place or something totally different?
- Of everything that you've written, what are you the most proud of?

Hi Chir, 1. Plessis (play see - French pronunciation) Mira (not sure how to sound that. soft 'i' as in sink) Moud (mood) Eskaalim (Eskarlim) 2. I wrote the beginning of a novel when I was eight, called The Splendid Six, about sheep rustlers on a farm. 3. It varies from project to project. I began the Parrish series with a place (The Tert), with Sentients it was a concept (disintegration of a society) but sometimes it will be a character (Sharp Shooter). 4. Hmmm... that's a toughie. I'm proud of them all because at the time of writing each one, I seemed to be facing personal trials and tribulations; my son's chronic illness, and then my own illness. I don't think I've written a novel yet without some other profound pressure going on. I'm very proud of Sentients because I think it's a mentally challenging series. But my upcoming YA novel, Burn Bright, is very 'me' in terms of atmosphere and ambience. " "

Hmmm, I had Eskaalim right, but the others totally wrong - Plessis as it's written, Mira kinda like meerkat, and in my brain moud kinda switches back and forth between 'mood' and 'mowd' (to rhyme with the first syllable of 'rowdy'). XD Sheep rustlers... now I have this image of Parrish vs evil sheep stealers... only the sheep are deformed by radiation poisoning. It's so cool seeing inside your brain! ^_^ And I really hope that during your next project, you don't have any trials and tribulations going on. Although one theory seems to be that if you don't have any of that stuff going on, you don't tend to write as well... (the universal 'we', obviously, not you as a person!)

My turn:
Now that Ebooks are becoming more widely accepted and used, how do yow think this is going to change what you do once the book is written?

And another from me:
Do you ever forget to eat/do the grocery shopping/go to bed when you're writing?

Have you ever found yourself using lines from your own books in everyday life? eg- Parrish using the word wombat like we'd use the words Lord, Jesus, or Allah.

Hi Belinda,
I don't tend to use them out loud but they definitely run through my mind, almost like a private joke.

Hi Chir,
I forget a LOT of things when I'm writing. Or I remember them and don't do them anyway because I don't want to leave the computer. My husband is always grumbling about running out of things (teabags, alfoil etc).

Hi Stellar, I think we're (ie major publishers) a little way of going straight to e-book, so for the moment, nothing. In time though, I guess the manuscript to publication process will become quicker. This could potentially increase the volume of titles, but so many other things are involved, I'm really not sure. mDp

You have an open checkbook and Hollywood is calling.
Which actors, past present and up and comers could you see playing your major characters?

Nice Q, Belinda. ^_^ I still call Michelle Rodriguez for Parrish. If she was Aussie. Anyway, this isn't about me. XD
Marianne - If you could choose one area of the Tert and one planet of Orion/Extro space to live in, which would you pick?

I've been thinking about this on and off for a while. Parrish is a hard one - I really would prefer someone unknown, like an undiscovered Mila Jovovich. For the others ... not really. But if I spot anyone I'll let you know. I do love Michelle Rodriguez, but she's a bit short! You have an open checkbook and Hollywood is calling.
